Strike Vote Set for August 23rd

On June 21, 2018 at The Ponds in Bath, NY volunteers from Locals 774 GM Tonawanda, 686 GM Lockport, 897 Ford Stamping, Local 55 and Local 424 along with Wayne Bieger, VCAP/Region 9 and Ed McGowan, Area Director enjoyed a fun filled day with our Veterans. The committee and volunteers took 25 Veterans and 3 staff members from the V.A. Hospital in Bath, NY on a day long fishing trip.

The Civil & Human Rights Conference was held at the UAW Black Lake Education Center and many Committee members from the following Locals were in attendance Local 1069, 897 and 1097.

The .2018 Albany Lobbying Conference was held March 11, 2018- March 14, 2018. The Conference took place at the Desmond Hotel in Albany, NY 

The Conference agenda included many  speakers, Plenary sessions and of course lobbying at the Capitol on many UAW issues.

Some of the issues that were lobbied on  included jobs, the economy, funding for various services, and unemployment insurance, just to name a few.

The labor movement isn’t content to merely survive in an era when anti-union lawmakers control both chambers of Congress – we’re moving forward, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka told delegates at the 2018 UAW Community Action Program (CAP) Conference in Washington, D.C.

“It’s time to drop our shield, pick up our sword and go on offense for a while,” Trumka said.

First, NAACP President Derrick Johnson explained that there definitely is a connection between civil rights and labor. As a matter of fact, they are natural allies. And two, just as with other progressive coalitions and allies, we must stay sharply focused on the next five years to turn the tide on the attacks from the right.
